After you install the Onyx base and then put up the drywall is it best to finish the drywall taping/mud/sanding and finishing/painting in the area where the side panels are not covering the sheetrock? It would appear smart to do this before installing the Onyx panels. Advice?

Glen, 

Yes, that would be a good idea as you really wouldn't want to tape, mud, and sand up next to your shower panels. I would finish the sheetrock and get a coat of primer on the drywall and then you are ready to install some shower panels!
