Shower Accessories

This is where personal touch, design, and needs come into play. Adding the necessary accessories to your shower such as caddies for you soap or seats for luxury makes this step the most fun. With several styles of each accessory I'm sure you'll find exactly what you need!

Shower Seats

Corner shower seats are pre-drilled and ready to be installed. Each seat comes with a kit that includes bolts, washers and complete installation instructions. Shower seats can support over 400 lbs.

Shower Caddies

Shower caddies are a nice way to keep all that shampoo, conditioner, razors, bars of soap (well, you get the hint) off the floor. Choose from a variety of styles which include corner, recessed, flush mount, and others to get that necessary storage for a nicer shower shower!
Shower caddies are provided with mounting hardware and adhesive silicone.

Shower Trim

Shower trim is a nice and affordable way to put that personal touch on your Onyx shower. From crown molding to chair rail capping off some wainscoting the Onyx Collection has the trim that will do the job for ya and look good doing it!

Crown Molding

Crown Molding shower trim adds to the appearance of the shower and also makes the wall panel installation easier, especially if the wall panels will go to the ceiling. The Crown Molding trim allows the panels to be up to 3" short of the ceiling, which allows the panels to be handled much easier. Corner blocks are available to eliminate miter cuts.

Corner Trim

Corner Trim is often used as an accent or as a filler when walls are crooked or out of plumb. Each trim has many uses and can easily be modified to fit your shower. Inlay stripes and borders can also be put in trim pieces to match an inlay in the wall panels

Onyx vs. Tile and Fiberglass

Granicast

Tile

Fiberglass

Material

Granicast showers are made from a onyx, a solid and sturdy composit, and can be manufactured to any size and shape you specify.

Tile is made of porcelain, slate, glass, or ceramic and is typically available in several sizes, ranging from 1 x 1 to 18 x 18

Fiberglass is a textile fabric made from woven glass filaments and comes in standard sizes only.

Installation

Granicast onyx materials are installed as solid pieces. Shower base, shower panels, and accessories. They are installed against standard sheetrock and adhered with silicone. After product has been installed the joints are sealed with a color matching 100% silicone. Cutting, drilling, and sanding the product requires the use of standard woodworking tools.

Tile is installed in pieces to make up a shower wall and shower panes. Tile requires a concrete backer board to adhere to. Tile is adhered with mastic. An un-sanded grout is applied to grout joints after tile installation. Shower pans are created by installing a rubber membrane, pouring concrete with a consistent slope toward the drain, and finished off with tile. Tile saws, grinding wheels, and concrete tools are required for tile shower installation.

Fiberglass installation is an easy installation, as the unit is one piece. Fiberglass installs to studs with an integrated nailing flange. Fiberglass shower pans have to be set in mortar for support. Keep in mind that in many remodeling projects a fiberglass unit will not fit through a bathroom door.

Maintanance

Granicast onyx is cleaned with everyday household cleaners. However, abrasive cleaners should not be used on the product as it may dull the surface. No sealing needs to be done as the finish (gel-coat) is built into the product and is guaranteed to last a lifetime.

Tile can be cleaned by a variety of cleaners.

Fiberglass showers are fairly easy to maintain. Walls are smooth with no grout to clean.

Longevity

Grnicast onyx products are designed to be installed once and last a life time. Onyx is a solid surface product with a high density gelcoat finish like that on a boat. The wall panels are bonded to the wall with silicone and all the seams are filled with color-matched silicone witch is impervious to mold and mildew and will not crack.

Tile is designed to last about 15 years if installed correctly. Grout needs to be sealed at least every 2 years. Grout may need to be re-done every couple of years as grout is a concrete product, and with the natural expansion and contraction of a house, the grout will crack over time and cause leaks.

Fiberglass is thin and is susceptible to cracking. If a crack develops the entire unit needs to be replaced.

Forever Guarantee

Granicast onyx products are guaranteed forever! If anything happens to the product, it will be replaced free of charge.

Price

Granicast showers are typically going to cost slightly more than tile or fiberglass due to its customized nature and quality of materials used. Onyx Collection showers are a great investment to your home. Customers enjoy their Onyx shower for years and when they are ready to sell, their investment comes full circle. No re-grouting. No resealing. No cracking or leaking. No worries!

Tile showers vary widely in price, depending on the size and type of tile used. Along with the cost of material comes the cost of maintaining, which must be done every few years to ensure a tile shower remains waterproof and mold free.

Fiberglass showers have a low up-front cost, but are made of a much lower quality material, and will need to be replaced much sooner than an Onyx shower unit.
